Reading Books

Your child will be provided with a reading book to match their reading age – which means they should be able to fluently read 90% of the words without any issues.

The best way to do reading at home is for the grown up to read a few pages (to model good reading out loud) and then the child can continue or re-read what the adults have read.

Please try to talk about the books as you read and their reading log will need signing so they can swap their reading book for a new one.

The children will receive raffle tickets and dojos every time they return their book. At the end of each half term, we will pick a name out of the raffle and the child will receive a price. Books will be sent home every Wednesday and should be returned to school to be changed on the following Monday. They can read their own books that they have at home as well, and if you make a note of this in their reading log they will be given a sticker for their chart.

Homework

Homework will not be sent home for a few weeks, whilst the children settle back into KS2. They will be sent home with a booklet that will have a reading, maths and GPS task to be completed each week and handed in on a Friday to be marked together in class as part of the lesson.

If you would like to support them at home in the meantime, we would encourage you to read with your child as often as possible. Your child can also access One Minute Maths (a free app) and the Spelling Shed website. The children will be provided with their own log in details for Spelling Shed. The children’s log in details have already been sent home with them. Please let us know if you do not have these.

Things to Remember

Snacks for Break

As a school we want to promote a healthy lifestyle. In KS2, we ask that children bring in a piece of fruit to have as a snack at break time.

Water Bottles

Please send your child with a labelled water bottle each day. This must be filled with water only. They can refill them during the day.

Jewellery

At Ss. Aidan and Oswald’s we have a no jewellery policy. This includes small earrings.
