Ensuring a Smooth Transition for Your Child to Our School

We want your child to start their school journey feeling confident, happy, and excited. For this to happen, they need to know exactly where they are going, who will be there, what they can do when they arrive, and how long they will stay. A successful transition means children settle quickly into school, ready to learn and develop from day one. That's why we work closely with families and local pre-schools to get to know each child as an individual before they begin their journey with us.

Our goal is to help your child form positive relationships with the adults in the school and make friends with their peers from the very start. To ensure a smooth transition, we begin our activities in the summer term before your child starts school.

Here’s how we support your child’s transition:

  • Nursery and Preschool Collaborations: We communicate with feeder nurseries and preschools to gather insights about your child.
  • Stay and Play Sessions: These sessions let your child explore the learning environment, engage with play materials, and start building friendships in smaller groups.
  • Carefully Planned Transition: We have a structured approach to ensure your child feels comfortable and prepared for school.
  • Parent Information and Meet and Greet Sessions: Held during the summer term, these sessions provide valuable information and an opportunity to meet the staff.

During the first few weeks and months, we gradually introduce the children to the routines and expectations of Reception Class, adding different parts of the curriculum slowly so they can adjust comfortably. Our aim is for all children to feel settled and happy, ready to move confidently through the Autumn Term and the rest of the school year.
