Art and Design
Year 1: Secondary Colours
During our Art lessons we have been investigating how to mix secondary colours. Did you know that the human eye is most sensitive to the shade green? The children have practised making different shades...these will be used to make a beautiful class Advent Wreath. Well done children!
Year 4: Power Prints
Year 4 loved the Power Prints unit we have just finished! We explored and created tone using different pencils to help us create a simple 3D effect. We explored the effect of holding a pencil in different ways and applying different pressures. We used charcoal and rubber to show areas of light and dark in our drawings. We also used different tools to create marks and patterns when scratching into a painted surface, that we had created in the previous lesson. To end our topic we went back through all our masterpieces and evaluated our favourite piece.
Year 3: Prehistoric Painting
The children explored prehistoric art, recreating the style of cave artists using charcoal and natural pigments. Pupils experimented with colour mixing, and creating large-scale artworks, enhancing both artistic skills and historical knowledge.
Reception: Drawing Club
Drawing Club is another new thing for Reception. We all draw together and it is a wonderfully calm activity where the children have a chance to express themselves through their art work. This week they drew their own interpretations of Billy and the Dragon – our story for the last two weeks. There were some fabulous illustrations and the children were very proud.
Year 6: The O’Antiphons - December 2025
Year 6 had a wonderful lesson exploring the O’Antiphons whilst thinking about final preparations during Advent. We explored the O’Antiphons using artwork and songs and called upon our prior knowledge to help us undertake some wonderful analysis of the artwork!
Nursery: 'I am Special' Self Portraits
In Nursery, children have been learning that we are all different and all special. Through drawing self-portraits, they explored their individual features while developing pencil grip and control. Careful observation, confidence, and creativity were encouraged as pupils practised mark making and celebrated what makes each of them unique every day.
